da betsul: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering a swap deal sending Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain across London to Premier League champions Chelsea in order to bring Nemanja Matic to The Emirates this summer, according to reports from Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio.
What’s the word?
da casino: Wenger is looking to oversee an unprecedented overhaul of his playing staff this summer after a woeful campaign, glossed over by their record breaking FA Cup win over the Blues, saw the Gunners slip from the Champions League places for the first time in the Frenchman’s reign.
While a number of top names have been linked with The Emirates this summer, Matic’s has come out of the blue with the Serbian widely expected to have been moving to Manchester United for a reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho, after the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko at Chelsea.
The future of England international Oxlade-Chamberlain is also up in the air, with a host of top Premier League sides already having been linked.
What the doctor ordered?
Exactly how happy the former Southampton midfielder would be about this deal is hard to judge, given he would still face a battle for game time at Stamford Bridge, however in the eyes of Wenger it could be ideal.
While Oxlade-Chamberlain is a valuable asset in north London, the chance to bring Matic into their midfield is hard to pass up. The Gunners looked frail in the middle at times last season and although Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey combined well in the latter stages of the season, the Serb would bring a whole new level to the side.
Whether or not Xhaka and the Chelsea man could combine alongside eachother is a tough question, however, if Wenger is to battle his way back to the top of the Premier League, or the top four at least, then he’s going to have to be ruthless with his decisions.
