da winzada777: Former Arsenal striker Paul Mariner believes that Manchester United’s new signing Romelu Lukaku will struggle to succeed at Old Trafford.
da esoccer bet: The Red Devils confirmed on Monday that the Belgian international has joined the club for what many media outlets claim is a £75m fee.
Lukaku, who was heavily linked to his former club Chelsea, has spent the last three years playing for Everton.
He finished second to Golden Boot winner Harry Kane last season after finding the back of the net 25 times in the top flight, and the pressure will be on when he lines up in Jose Mourinho’s team.
The 24-year-old has been handed the number nine shirt, which was vacated by Zlatan Ibrahimovic when he was released as a result of a serious knee injury.
While Mariner hopes that Lukaku has a successful career at United, he is concerned that the striker will not be able to handle the pressure, nor come up with answers to break through sturdy defences.
He told ESPN:
“With no disrespect to Everton, in previous seasons playing for Everton in a No 9 shirt, there’s not that much media coverage, there’s not much pressure.
“The biggest ask that I have about Lukaku is in those tight areas, when teams are going to sit in, when teams are going to defend deep, has he got the quick feet to open up defences and finish? I don’t know. It is a no at the moment, I hope he does well. At the moment, from what I’ve seen at Everton, I don’t see him being a success.”
