da blaze casino: Up and down the country grassroots football clubs are currently scrambling for new players, trying to convince the local pub to sponsor them and wondering whether the kit they bought three seasons ago is still fit for purpose. It’s part of British heritage. A tradition if you will. However, one club in East London is looking to break the mould.
da esoccer bet: United London FC is a football club with a difference. They are attempting to raise the profile of grassroots football by putting fans in the dugout and allowing them to choose their starting XI every week.
They held trials in May and have selected a squad to compete every Saturday in the Essex Alliance Premier Division. There is nothing new about that, apart from the fact these players will be trying to impress you. This club does away with a traditional manager and will instead rely on football fans to select the team to take them up through the leagues.
In many ways it’s like a real-world Football Manager, but this is no simulation. Here, a fans decision will have a direct impact on what this club achieve on the pitch.
The man behind the concept, Mark North, explains more in this short pre-season documentary.
In their debut season, they were adopted by TalkSport Extra and were featured in numerous magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times. This allowed them to attract managers (they call their fans ‘Managers’ as they pick the team) from a variety of countries including the UK, USA, Australia, China, Russia, Canada and across Europe which helped them refine the concept and test various scenarios to make the 2017/2018 a successful one.
Now approaching the start of season two they have moved to a 3G pitch and invested heavily in a new website and app which incorporates technology found in Champions League clubs making them one of, if not the most advanced grassroots club in the world. You can register to become a manager by visiting www.unitedlondonfc.com and you’ll be notified once they officially re-launch.
Personally, we can’t wait to sign up and see how this pans out!
