The Japanese defender, who joined the Bundesliga giants from VFB Stuttgart this summer, suffered a metatarsal fracture during the club's pre-season friendly against fourth-division side Duren on Sunday. The club later confirmed that Ito underwent a scan immediately after the game and will now remain out of action for a long time.

The official statement from Bayern read, "New signing Hiroki Ito is set to be out of action for FC Bayern for several weeks. The defender sustained a metatarsal fracture during Sunday's friendly at 1. FC Düren (1-1). This was confirmed by a scan carried out by the FC Bayern medical team immediately after the match."
On the defender's condition, sporting director Max Eberl said, "It's obviously a very bitter blow. We'll give Hiroki the best support so that he's back fully fit on the pitch as soon as possible."

With the Japan international out of action now, the Bavarian side could consider rekindling their interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah. The German, whose current contract expires in 2025, has reportedly rejected a new offer from the Bundesliga champions after which they are now considering parting ways with the player.
