Bolton’s poor form continued after they lost 2-1 at home to Norwich at the Reebok Stadium who won for the first time in the Premier League this season.
It’s now four defeats on the spin for Owen Coyle’s side who were outplayed by their newly promoted opponents and now sit only two places above the relegation zone.
The Canaries were magnificent on the day and deservedly took home their first three points of the campaign with goals from summer signings Anthony Pilkington and Bradley Johnson giving them a 2-0 lead and putting the smile back on boss Paul Lamberts face.
Bolton had Ivan Klasnic sent off for a headbutt on Marc Tierney before a consolation goal from Martin Petrov from the penalty spot gave the fans hope of a comeback.
The visitors are an uncompromising force in the first half as they barely gave their hosts a sniff but just couldn’t manage to find a way past Jussi Jaaskelainen.
However their pressure ultimately paid off in the 37th minute as Pilkington prodded home Steve Morison’s cross for his first goal since joining the club from Huddersfield.
Johnson doubled the lead six minutes later rising to meet Danny Fox’s cross and power the ball past Jaaskelainen to send the away fans wild.
With Bolton shell shocked the last thing they needed was to go a man down and Klasnic let his side down when he was dismissed after aiming a headbutt in Tierney’s direction.
Hope did come in the 64th minute when Leon Barnett brought David N’Gog down in the penalty area to concede the Canaries fifth consecutive spot kick of the season with Petrov stepping up to slam the ball past John Ruddy.
It was all in vain though as Norwich held on for a priceless win and cranked up the pressure on Coyle in the process.
