According to Sky Sports, Everton are interested in signing Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori as they consider alternatives to first-choice target Kurt Zouma.
The Toffees certainly enjoyed having the France international on loan at Goodison Park last term, where Zouma shone alongside Michael Keane in his 32 Premier League appearances – he netted two goals and set up two more.
Marco Silva revealed his desire to bring the former St Etienne man to the club, but things look to have stalled after Frank Lampard spoke about wanting to keep Zouma at Stamford Bridge.
Tomori spent last season on loan at Derby under Lampard and did well as the Rams made the play-off final, and would be a decent man for the Merseysiders to target as a Zouma alternative for reasons both on and off the pitch.
Albeit in a lower division, Tomori bettered Zouma’s numbers in the tackling department with 2.3 tackles per game to the Frenchman’s one, whilst he also records more clearances and blocks per 90.
At just 21 years of age, Tomori appears to have a wonderful amount of potential in the game – who knows how good he’ll be in three years when he reaches the same age as Zouma?
The young Englishman would definitely be a handy capture with just 10 days of the window remaining, as Everton have just two senior centre-backs in Yerry Mina and Michael Keane currently available.
Additionally, taking Tomori and helping him to develop his game would improve the relationship between the Blues and the Toffees even more.

Taking Zouma on loan and developing him into a first-team contender for Lampard to use in 2019/20 will have presumably gone down well in west London, and will also have strengthened the relationship between the two – Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s successful loan move to Crystal Palace helped develop a good relationship which saw Michy Batshuayi handed to the Eagles on loan above other clubs, for example.
If Everton can do the same as they did with Tomori as they did with Zouma, then they will have a good centre-back on their hands and a stronger relationship with the Blues, which can be of benefit to the Toffees as we saw through Zouma’s success last term.
