The site state that Leeds may go up by default if the season is cancelled due to the ongoing crisis gripping the globe, and that will make for quite a bittersweet end to the season for the Yorkshire club.
On the one hand, they’ll have achieved their goal, but they will also have been deprived of the day they’ve been waiting 16 years for as they won’t be able to celebrate on the pitch with a stadium full of supporters going ballistic.
For some of these players, promotion from the Championship with Leeds may be the pinnacle of what they achieve in their career, but they could have their day in the sun stolen from them.
Of course, the joy that comes with being a top-flight team will still be there, but it’ll be an underwhelming occasion for many as they won’t get that feeling of jubilation when the final whistle goes to confirm that they’ve achieved their ambitions.
Instead, it may be a case of a press release confirming the club’s fate, and while there will still be something to celebrate, it won’t quite feel the same as if they had done it in front of a packed out Elland Road.
In other news, Marcelo Bielsa may have just saved Leeds a lot of money.
